RoRo and Breakwater Installation

Project Type: Marine Construction
Project Location: Kitimat, BC Canada
Date: October 27, 2020

Challenge:

The requirement arose in Kitimat, British Columbia for a temporary RoRo to assist with cargo services on a 24/7 basis. With limited locations available due to ongoing projects in the area, and severe winter weather on the Douglas Channel approaching, a suitable and protected location for installation was required.

Solution:

Bridgemans Kitamaat Joint Venture assisted in identifying the best location with stakeholders, then engineered & installed the RoRo along with robust floating breakwater. The installation included a 200-foot ramp, new shoreside abutment and sectional float transition. The facility can accept barges up to 300 feet in inclement weather with protection from a 400’ floating breakwater secured with Vyroff Stevshark anchors.

The design and installation was completed on time within 60 days, meeting all HSE and project specific requirements. The completed RoRo shows the versatility of Bridgemans and the knowledge gained from engineering floatel moorage plans at a number of locations around the world.
